The Basenji is the only dog in the world that can´t bark, still it isn´t mute. It has it´s own special way to express itself, something between a yodel and a snarl. Basenjins struphuvud och stämband är annorlunda konstruerat än hos andra hundar. Stämbandens vibrationer är inte tillräckligt starka för att framkalla skall men däremot ett joddlande, gurglande läte som ibland av misstag kan uppfattas som en morrning.
